Border of Lights
Saturday, October 8, 2016
8 - 10 pm EST
Border of Lights will be on the border towns of Dajabón, DR and Ouanaminthe, HT from October 7-9, 2016. This is our fifth year, gathering at the border between Haiti and the Dominican Republic, to commemorate the massacre of 1937, and also to promote peace and collaboration between two countries who have been historically in conflict. There will be a Twitter Chat (@border_oflights) and Facebook Q + A and Online Vigil (posting candles and lights to commemorate the Parsley Massacre). The Virtual Vigil will take place on Saturday, October 8th from 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm EST.
How does the BOL Virtual Vigil work?
1. Selfie/Usie: Take a picture of yourself (selfie) and/or your group (usie) having a moment of silence (with a candle, match, lighter, bond fire, smart phone, etc...). Selfies, usies and large community groups are welcomed.
2. Tag BOL: Tag your picture to the Border of Lights Facebook Page (make sure to like us) or Twitter page @borderof_lights.
3. Where You At: When uploading your picture add the hashtag #belights2016, #belights, #bol2016 or #borderoflights2016, along with your location from your place on the globe.
4. Timing: Upload your pictures on Saturday, October 8th between 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm EST. You can take pictures prior to and upload them during the planned time for the Virtual Vigil.
Advocates should begin uploading their questions to the scheduled industry leaders on Saturday, October 8th between 8 pm - 9 pm EST: @border_oflights & #borderoflights2016. In previous years we have scheduled Caribbean diaspora authors Michele Wucker, Julia Alvarez, Erika Martinez, and of course our very own Dr. Edward Paulino; Shakyra Diaz, former Policy Director of the ACLU of Ohio; Edison Suero, Director at MOSCTHA; and Claudio Cabrera, Digital Journalist. This year we have tons of surprises with the speakers and would love for you to join us.
Merci, Gracias and Thank You for being a true advocate.
Exito y Prosperidad,
